AI Voiceovers for Ads: How to Make Them Sound Human
October 11, 2026 5 min read
A good voiceover can carry a simple video. A robotic one can ruin a great one. The difference is usually the script, not the voice.
Write how people talk
Use short sentences, contractions and everyday words. "I didn't expect this to work" sounds human; "This product exceeded expectations" does not.
Use punctuation as direction
Commas create small pauses, full stops create longer ones. Break long lines up so the voice has room to breathe.
Match the voice to the buyer
A calm voice suits sleep and wellness products; an upbeat one suits gadgets and fitness. Try two voices on the same script.
Keep it under the video length
Leave a second or two of breathing room at the end for the call to action and the product shot.
Mix it with music carefully
Background music should sit well below the voice. If you have to strain to hear the words, lower the music.
